Mode of Preparation :Bark crushed with water for decoction. Pods boiled for extract. Leaves soaked in water for infusion.

Ingredients :Seeds contain amino acids, fatty acid and ascorbic acids along with tannin as the constituent. Babul bark yields tannin (12%). Pods contains tannin (12-19%). Babul gum used for calico printing and dying.
Ailment Treated:The bark is astringent, cooling, emollient, anthelmintic, constipating, depurative, aphrodisiac, diuretic, expectorant, emetic and nutritive. Decoction of bark used as a gargle in sore throat and tooth ache. Pod-extract is used in urinogenetial diseases. Infusion of tender leaves used as an astringent and remedy for diarrhoea and dysentery. Gum is used astringent and styptic.
