Mode of Preparation :Flowers crushed with water for decoction. Leaves and seeds boiled for extract. The rhizome known as thambou is usually taken in raw and salad preparation. Young leaves, fruits and modified stems are edible.
Mode of use :Fresh and Decoction
Ingredients :Leaves contain alkaloids like nuciferine, roemerine, nor-nuciferine and querecetin. The plumules yields proteins, sugar and vitamins. The receptacles contain quercetin.
Ailment Treated:Leaf petiole taken raw in stomach problem and for better urination. Roots, flowers, filaments and seeds are used in diarrhoea, cholera, leprosy, bleeding piles, dysentery, skin affection and snake-bites. Leaves and seed cores extract are effective for insomnia, haemorrhage and haematenesis. Decoction of flower is used for blood purification.
Source:Wild/cultivated in the ponds and lakes. Flower, fruits, roots, leaf lamina are available sold in the markets.
