Mode of Preparation :Fresh leaves and roots boiled for extract. Fresh leaves and roots used as spices. Fresh leaves crushed & squeezed for juice.The whole plant is used in garnishing the traditional chutney specially of banana pseudo stem preparation (Eronba).

Ingredients :Whole plant yields and essential oil consisting of methylnonyl ketone, myrcene d-olimonene, a-pinene, p-cymene, linalool, and geraniol. Six phenolic compounds were reported present in the plant namely, Protocatechuic acid , Quercetin, Apigenin, Afzelin, Hyperoside and Quercitrin.
Ailment Treated:Leaf extract is given in dysentery. Boiled extract of rhizome and leaves is taken in muscular pains due to overstrains, measles, gonorrhoea, eye and skin irritation. Rhizome is used in stomach ulcers. Crushed fresh leaves are applied externally in a poultice.
Source:Swampy areas, mainly plain areas. Cultivated in the kitchen gardens .Generally sold in the markets as spices.
