Mode of Preparation :Roots boiled for extract. Tender fruit is crushed for juice. Edible as pan & used in many religious ceremonies.

Ingredients :The Kernals yield, Catchin (70% of the young fruit, 15-20% in the over ripe fruit), lipids consisting of Laurin, Olein and Myristen, Glucides (50-60%) alkaloids, Arecoline, Arecaidine, Arecaine, Guracine and Guvacoline are reported.
Ailment Treated:Decoction of root is used in sore lips and liver complaint. Paste of the nut after rubbing on the stone with water is applied to leucodermal patches. Young nuts are used in bowel complaints and ulcers. Areca nut along with leaf of Piper betel is chewed against low blood pressure. Pericarp is used in flatulence, dyssuria and hyperaemesis of pregnancy. Kernel is used in diarrhoea and dysentery. Juice of tender fruit is laxative.
